You are not alone

Those first few days after having a baby are both magical and scary. I remember them clearly. I remember the highs and the lows.

I often get asked what a postpartum hospital visit is all about, so I have been trying to summarize exactly what they are. Yes, it is helping with sore nipples, yes it’s possibly a shoulder massage from some referring pain, yes it’s c/section education and all those things but it’s so much more.

It’s a message that you are not alone. That there is support for YOU and YOUR body.

The postpartum period is still very much geared to your newborn. But in a time and space where your body is going through so much change and transition, I want moms to know that there is support for them. The changing breasts, the tummy that we don’t recognize, the body that just feels different. We can help with that!

We can help you understand the change so that you can work towards strength and function. We can help you understand your new body and how best to take care of it in the next season. Breastfeeding positions, posture, core rehab and return to exercise are just some of the few things we can help you with to get you where you want to go.

I like to think that I can help you reconnect to yourself by helping you reconnect to your body.

But sometimes it’s just about listening to the story of a birth that didn’t go as planned. Sometimes it’s giving a new mom a shoulder to cry on because her baby is in the NICU and she is all alone. Sometimes it is just about holding space for feelings that we don’t even have words for yet.

In a season where everyone wants to see and meet the baby, I want you to know that I see you mama! I am here for you! You still matter! You are not alone.

And when the newborn mist finally settles, and you feel on top of things, when you finally have a thought towards yourself and your body, please reach out! I would love you help you on your postpartum journey.

Touch your Tummy

From the moment we realize we are pregnant we start rubbing our tummy, touching it protectively and caressing it lovingly. We are amazed and nervous at the change taking place in our body.

Yet, almost from the moment our baby is born our tummy changes from this sacred place to this “thing” we no longer recognize or even like!

Touch your tummy mama! It may look and feel and move differently but it is the same tummy that you used to love. It is the same tummy that protected and created space for your most precious possesion to grow and flourish.

Our postpartum body may never look the way it did pre-baby but that doesn’t mean we aren’t strong and beautiful! For 9 months the muscles of our abdominal wall stretched to make space. Our ribcage widened and our internal abdominal and pelvic organs got squished to create more room. Give your body some time to regain its tone and shape.

Understanding the changes that occur during pregnancy makes it easier to rehab them postpartum. I love working with new moms and explaining to them all that has changed and how we can make small changes to help the core regain its strength.

Take a moment and touch your tummy mama! Tell it that you still love it. And then give it the care it deserves by helping it to rehab properly.

Hello Mom: Connecting Postpartum Moms back to their Bodies.

I have such happy news to post! @luluphysio and I are so excited to share our new offering for postpartum ladies.

Introducing the “hello mom” assessment 🙌🏻 Hello mom is a safe space that we have created for any mom that has ever had a baby to reconnect to their postpartum body.
As a postpartum mom the only routine care that you receive is a checkup with your gynae or midwife at 6 weeks to give you a Pap smear and the all clear for sex and exercise.
Yet after having a baby your body will never be the same. Things have changed that you probably have never even considered. A hello mom check takes you through all the ways your body has changed and adapted to pregnancy and birth and helps you navigate your journey towards healing and wholeness.

To help us on our mission to give moms the help they need we have put together a 3 part webinar to help postpartum moms better understand their new bodies and to start them on the road to recovery.

Session 1: Get connected to your pelvic floor
Session 2: Embracing your “mummy tummy”
Session 3: Enjoying sex and exercise

We will be sharing dates and sign up information about the webinars in the next few days. If you are a postpartum mom, we would love for you to join us 💕.
